| English Studies 12 |
English Studies 12 encompasses a broad range of English language skills. Students will explore a variety of composition, literature and creative writing experiences to broaden their ability with and understanding of the English Language. This course will also look at Reconciliation in Canada and explore the movement to heal relationships between First Peoples and Canada that was damaged by colonial policies. Teachers will guide students in finding their focus and resources to support their learning. Students may complete this course using a variety composition writing curriculum, novel studies, literature and non-fiction texts. |
| English First Peoples 12 |
ENFP 12 builds upon and extends students’ previous learning experiences in LA and ENFP 10 and 11 courses. The course is grounded in the First Peoples Principles of Learning. It is designed for all students, Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal, who are interested in delving deeply into First Peoples oral and written literature and visual texts in a range of media. The course focuses on the experiences, values, beliefs, and lived realities of First Peoples as evidenced in various forms of text, including oral story, poetry, song, performance, film, and prose. A key feature of the course is its focus on authentic First Peoples voices (i.e., historical or contemporary texts created by or with First Peoples). This course meets the Indigenous Focused grad requirement for the Dogwood Diploma. |

Composition 12 is designed to support students in their refinement and pursuit of mastery of written communication. Teachers will support students to produce work that demonstrates breadth, depth, and evidence of sophisticated for a range of writing situations. Students will read and study exemplary compositions by other writers and be exposed to a variety of styles as models for the development of their writing. The course provides opportunities for students, with increasing independence and self-sufficiency, to study, create, and write original and authentic pieces for a range of purposes and audiences using real-world applications with impact and effectiveness. |

Creative Writing 12 is designed for students who are interested in creating a body of work reflective of a sophisticated breadth and depth of skill. The course provides students with opportunities to specialize and publish in real-world contexts. Teachers will support students as they develop their skills through writing and the design processes. This individualized course is designed to reflect the increasing importance of digital media in communicating and exchanging ideas. Teachers will guide students in finding their focus and resources to support their learning with the aim of providing students with a set of skills vital for success in an increasingly complex digital world. Students will have numerous opportunities to demonstrate understanding and communicate increasingly sophisticated ideas through a wide variety of digital and print media. |

This individualized course is designed to support students as they refine, clarify, and adjust their spoken communication through practice and revision. Teachers will guide students in finding their focus and resources to support their learning. Student will have opportunities to create, write, and present a body of publishable and/or performance-based work for a range of purposes and audiences. |
After completing Social Studies 10, students must take at least one Grade 11 or 12 social studies course to fulfill graduation requirements. The BC Social Studies curriculum is built around six key thinking concepts: significance, evidence, continuity and change, cause and consequence, perspective, and ethical judgment. | B.C. First Peoples 12 |
Through text and online resources, students will explore the history and cultures of First Nations people from before the arrival of Europeans to the present. They will examine the historical foundations of contemporary issues and observe how First Nations cultures have adapted to changing world events and environments. He/She will collaborate with his family and teacher to create a study plan, respond to assignments, present his/her thoughts, research a personally relevant topic, and present. **Meets the Indigenous-Focused Grad requirement for the Dogwood Diploma. |
| Comparative Cultures 12 |
Pathways offers a variety of different Comparative Cultures courses, each focusing on a different aspect or topic. Some will use print based resources and others video lectures series. Other resources or focus areas may be explored in this course. Discuss further options with your teacher. |
| Comparative World Religions 12 |
Pathways offers two Comparative World Religion Courses. In the first video, culturally-based course, Students will explore questions such as: What is religion (worldview)? Why does one religious tradition often differ so markedly from another? What kinds of factors separate the beliefs of one group from another as well as within sub-groups of the larger groups? In the second print, Christian-based course, Students will compare Christianity to five major competing worldviews and learn how to identify, analyze, and compare the tenets of each. |
| Genocide Studies 12 |
In this very challenging, text-rich course, students will explore genocide’s roots in antiquity and its manifestations in modern and contemporary periods; the intimate relationships between genocide, war, imperialism, and social revolution; and the diverse social science perspectives on the phenomenon. Students will examine how legal institutions and mechanisms evolved to confront genocide; how genocides worked their way into collective memory; and the role that gender plays. This course uses a secular text. Students are not expected to agree with all points presented. They are, however, expected to become familiar with common points and to develop their own responses to these difficult topics. |
| Law Studies 12 |
In Law Studies 12 students will learn to understand the legal rights and responsibilities of Canadian citizens as they participate in society. They will learn how laws can maintain the status quo and also force change. The will explore Canadian laws and legal framework and how it impacts aspects of everyday life. They will also explore how law are interpreted and how that can change over time. This course is available as an individualized course or as a prepared course using the resource, 'All About Law' (published by Nelson). |
| Philosophy 12 |
Through a series of video lectures, students will become familiar with Philosophy by exploring the Big Questions of Philosophy. Students will explore the tools philosophy provides for investigating meaning and understanding the world. They will respond to content using a variety of applicable formats and thinking processes. This course uses a secular text that challenges many biblical principles. Interested Christian students should be mature and well-grounded in their faith, strong thinkers, and interested in becoming familiar with alternate worldviews and contesting them biblically. |
| Physical Geography 12 |
Student will use a variety of texts to explore the Physical Geography of the world, incorporating data from a variety of resources to better understand our globally connected world. Students will explore how natural processes have impacted the landscape and human settlements. They will analyze how interactions between human activities and the atmosphere affect local and global weather and climate. |
| BAA Criminology 12 |
Explore the field of criminology and the study of crime in Canada and how our Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Criminal Code of Canada influence court procedures and decisions in criminal cases. Explore how society responds to a crime, how media portrays the people involved, and how restorative justice has been introduced into the Criminal Code of Canada and it’s effectiveness in the court process. Explore how minorities are treated within the courts and the criminal code. **This course counts as Grade 12 elective credit. It does not count as the required Socials Studies credit for the Dogwood Diploma. |

| Permaculture Foundations |
Permaculture Foundations is an intense 12-credit course providing a broad, integrated overview of permaculture philosophy and ethics and an introduction to a multitude of regenerative solutions and strategies. Though this is an intensive course, it is quite suitable for students who thrive on conceptual, hands-on, and/or exploratory learning. Because student learning plans are individualized for an optimal learning experience, engaged students of any learning style can find success. A good internet connection is required. | Statistics 11 | Provides an introduction to a vitally important subject in today's data-driven society. In this course, students will explore the principles and methods that underlie the study of statistics. |
Through a variety of experiences students will build the skills needed to be a successful graduate and to transition into future school/work. They will explore and pursue post secondary options. In learning to balance work and life they will develop habits that foster present and future well-being. Reflections on life learning, work, and volunteer experiences will prepare them as they pursue future career options. Students will culminate the course with a capstone project highlighting their accomplishments and abilities developed in High School. They will participate in ongoing self-assessment and reflection of the core competencies as part of this project.
Arts Education gives students the chance to express themselves, explore creativity, and connect with culture and community through a wide variety of disciplines. The BC curriculum offers a variety of courses in Visual Arts, Drama, Dance, Music, or Media Arts. For many courses, students must be registered with a community-based arts program to support their skill development or should lean into mentorship opportunities. These courses encourage personal expression, critical thinking, and collaboration - all skills that are valuable in all areas of life and learning.

Second language courses at the Grade 12 level are customized around a backbone program selected in collaboration with our Language specialist.
Combined with projects that promote interaction with authentic texts and cultural knowledge based on the student's interest and language goals, students will develop an appreciation for the language and culture while learning to speak, read, write, and and understand with early fluency in their chosen language.
Aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for language learning, by the end of this course students will be able to communicate and understand at a middle to high A2 level.
